“I propose a different kind of catechism based on the narrative of the Bible because I believe it offers better prospects for the primary goal of helping learners live in relationship with God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Further, a narrative approach to catechism has the potential of drawing learners into the ongoing mission of Jesus in the world more powerfully. Here are several reasons why.

Like traditional catechetical approaches, a narrative catechism will be based on the Bible. Unlike the others, however, a narrative catechism will be drawn from the story of the Bible in a way that is mindful of how the story unfolds within the biblical materials themselves. It will not be based on a summary of the story’s most important teachings or doctrines, but on a summary of the larger story we find in the Bible, and in terms of how the story itself develops.”
