About The Author

Dr. Kevin Austin

Dr. Rev Kevin Austin, ordained in the Free Methodist Church, has more than 20 years experience in cross-cultural missionary and justice work. He is the Executive Director of the Set Free Movement, an international non-profit organization that intervenes in human trafficking. He is also an adjunct professor at Seattle Pacific University.

What does it truly mean to be set free and live in the freedom Jesus offers?

As Christians, our own liberation compels us to help liberate others, seeking justice for those who are enslaved spiritually, emotionally, or even physically by modern-day slave holders known as human traffickers. But it’s about more than being rescued from sin. It’s about being healed so that we all can flourish under the glory of God. Our goal is transformation: starting with the character of God, moving into compassionate communities, being rooted in Jesus, and then engaging in God’s mission of shalom where harmful values are shifted and relationships are restored. But we can’t talk about slavery without talking about our mutual brokenness. We must learn from the great physician, comforting and caring for the wounded while we ourselves are being healed.
