Thou My Best Thought

$12.95

The hymn Be Thou My Vision declares in one of its verses, “thou my best thought by day and by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.” This book is intended to be a tool that equips the reader to seek out and enjoy the light of God’s presence through prayer, morning, noon and night. Imitating the prophet Daniel’s practice of praying three times a day, this work provides outlines for daily prayers which can be prayed either alone or with others at specific hours throughout the day. Each day includes Psalms to be prayed. The Psalms for the day come from a list of daily Psalm readings that John Wesley provided for use by the early American Methodists. The daily scripture readings are taken from the Revised Common Lectionary for each week of the year. Along with Psalms to be prayed and scriptures to be read, each day also includes a meditation from the writings of John Wesley or an early Free Methodist source. This work seeks to help the reader recover a sense of what it means to be Free Methodist, by considering what the founders and leaders of the church have taught about life and holiness. May God alone become your best thought as you develop a rhythm of daily prayer. As you pray and repeat God’s Words daily, may they take root in your soul and transform you into the likeness of Jesus.
